  2. This file is README.1ST.  It contains information about
  3. WaveSong and how to install it.  Please read this file
  4. first!

  6. WaveSong is not free.
  7. If you obtained this program on a try-before-buy basis,
  8. be aware that if you continue to use this program, you
  9. MUST register within thirty days of use.
  10.  
  11. WaveSong is a nature-sound generator program for
  12. Windows 95 or NT4.0, using the digital sound output 
  13. capabilities of your sound card.  Sounds produced 
  14. include: thunder, crickets, waves, rain, and wind.  
  15. This application is useful for generating soothing 
  16. background sounds to mask out unwanted noise and to 
  17. promote relaxation.

  20. I.  Distribution Files
  21. ------------------------

  23. You may have received WaveSong in one of two forms:
  24.  
  25. A) You have the program in the form of .ZIP file,
  26.        WAVSNG24.ZIP 
  27.    from a bulletin board, Internet, CDROM, etc.  You 
  28.    should know how to unzip the file with PKUNZIP.EXE.
  29.  
  30. B) You have a floppy disk with several files, most in
  31.    compressed format.
  32.  
  33. If you have (A), please make sure the ZIP files are unzipped
  34. in a single directory before installation.

  36. II.  Installing WaveSong
  37. ---------------------------

  39. The WaveSong file set includes a program named SETUP.EXE
  40. used for installation.
  41.  
  42. If your distibution files are on a floppy disk in drive A:
  43.  
  44.     1) Click on the "Start" button on the taskbar.
  45.  
  46.     2) Click on the "Run..." item in pop-up menu.
  47.  
  48.     3) In the command box type
  49.  
  50.         A:\SETUP
  51.  
  52.         (If your floppy drive is different than A:,
  53.          substitute the appropriate name.)

  55.     4) Click on OK

  58. (If you unzipped the zipped file into a temporary directory, for
  59.  instance, C:\TMP, then do the same but with the command
  60.  C:\TMP\SETUP )
  61.  
  62. The setup program will ask you where you want WaveSong installed.
  63. You may install it anywhere, but we suggest using a separate new
  64. directory to keep WaveSong files separate from other programs.

  67. III. Getting started
  68. ----------------------
  69.  
  70. After installation, go ahead and click the Play button.  Listen
  71. for sound output and adjust the Volume slider control.
  72.  
  73. If you don't hear any sounds, try these steps:
  74.  
  75. Use another Windows application, such as Media Player which comes with
  76. Windows, to play a .WAV file.  If you don't hear any sounds, 
  77. chances are your sound card is not set up correctly.  Refer to your 
  78. sound card documentation.  Also, double-click on the speaker icon
  79. on the taskbar to bring up the Windows mixer controls and adjust volumes
  80. as needed.
